Blossom & Thrive: A Spring Message From ILA Executive Director Jennifer Russell

By Jennifer Russell

As the vibrant colors bloom, I’m filled with the kind of optimism and energy that only this time of year can bring. However, with the arrival of spring comes the start of tick season. As we begin to embrace the outdoors and all its joys, it's important to remain vigilant against Lyme disease and tick-borne illnesses and continue our efforts to raise awareness and provide resources for those affected.

This past January, we launched our Write for Us page to help us find and compensate Illinois-based writers to cover various Lyme disease topics. To see the program in action, check out our Borrelia miyamotoi feature by Jennifer Halpern.

We also raised over $10,000 in February at our first-ever Wine for Lyme event. Thanks to your unwavering support and dedication of our organization, we’ve been able to further our outreach across the state and begin to develop other unique ways to reach the residents of Illinois.

Last but not least, since the start of the year, we’ve been able to provide tick-borne disease education to several medical institutions and groups of people at high risk of contracting tick-related illnesses. Some of our top presentations included:

  • Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police

  • Hammond-Henry Hospital System

  • Graham Health System

  • Illinois Deer Expo

  • Illinois Special Growers

As we move through the year, let's cultivate hope, spread awareness, and advocate for those who need our help. Together, we can make a difference and bring light into the lives of those affected by Lyme disease.

Thank you for being a vital part of our community. Together, we will continue to blossom and thrive.

Warm regards,

Jennifer Russell, Executive Director, Illinois Lyme Association
