Lyme Disease - Carrying Ticks Spreading Across the Midwest, Study Says

Here at ILA we are celebrating with Brian Allen, Entomology Professor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and his colleagues on publishing research model on the spread patterns of Lyme-disease carrying ticks. “This new model will help local authorities prepare for the onset of Lyme disease in their counties before the first cases appear,” researchers say. The full study can be found here: Royal Society Publishing - Study Link

“The model predicts seven Illinois counties could be invaded by the black-legged tick this
year, namely Kane, Whiteside, Adams, Pike, Scott, Calhoun, and Moultrie.” - Alton Daily News

“Education efforts tend to be one of our best strategies for preventing Lyme disease
cases,” Allan said. “Being able to tell people that there's Lyme disease risk in an area and that they should take preventative measures.”
